This delightful semi-detached stone cottage is situated on a quiet lane in the hamlet of Alton, just a mile from the village of Ashover where there are a few shops and several pubs, and which is famous for its traditional annual agricultural show.
Columbine Cottage started life as a much smaller cottage but was extended many years ago. It is particularly popular with walkers and with families looking for a third bedroom and extra space. The accommodation is mainly set over two floors, although there is also a cellar, where the tumble-dryer is located. On the ground floor there is a large kitchen which leads to a separate dining room. The sitting room has an open log fire with an initial supply of fuel provided free during colder months. Upstairs there are three separate bedrooms, one with a double bed and two featuring twin beds. The large bathroom is also on the first floor, with a bath and separate shower cubicle. Outside there is a private garden with furniture and a barbecue. There are several steps leading up to the main lawned area and patio.
There is excellent walking from the doorstep, and it is less than half a mile from Columbine Cottage to the open access heathland of Ashover Rock, also known as The Fabrick. From here there are fabulous views over several counties.
The friendly hamlet of Alton feels more remote than it is, but it’s only a few miles from Matlock and the Crooked Spire town of Chesterfield. It is also well placed for visiting Derbyshire and the Peak District. The main village of Ashover has several good pubs, one of which is renowned as one of the oldest pubs in the Peak District and another which offers home brewed Ashover ales. The county town of Matlock, a former spa town, offers a host of fine eating places, good shops and an interesting museum, whilst at the heart of the town, Hall Leys Park provides a lovely setting for a host of recreational activities such as bowls, tennis and boating. Enjoy a thrilling day at Gulliver’s Kingdom, with its owl maze, water gardens, nature trails, exhilarating rides and cable car trips over the magnificent Matlock Gorge. Follow the High Peak Cycle Trail, explore the lovely market town of Bakewell, famous for the Bakewell pudding, or visit the elegant Chatsworth House and Hardwick Hall where it all started for the Cavendish family.
