In the evening it is cozy with a barbecue - although you also have to fall back on delicious fresh fish from the Schaalsee fishery. Of course you can also just fish your own fish. You live only 1300 meters from the Schaalsee, there is a boat rental and a beautiful lido for bathing and swimming.
Zarrentin is the gateway to the Schaalsee Biosphere Reserve. In addition to various shops, you will also find restaurants, a lakeside promenade and a lido in the village. Worth seeing are the former Cistercian monastery, whose east wing is still preserved, and the regional museum, founded in 1988, which focuses on the city and regional history.

A mapped-out cycling and hiking network of more than 180 kilometers takes you through pure and unspoiled nature. The Schaalsee biosphere reserve is located directly on the former inner-German border. A circular walk on the Strangen peninsula and around the Kirchensee shows impressively how formerly inhabited areas and border installations have been and are being reclaimed by nature. Also very nice is the slightly more than 40 km long bike ride around the Schaalsee.
