Summary: I embrace historic charm and quirkiness; what I don’t like are doors to bathrooms and bedrooms that don’t shut properly and lack of cleaning. The bedroom was described as deluxe double but there is nothing deluxe about it. The carpet was stained and had not been vacuumed recently as evidenced by dead flies and numerous bits. The door to the bedroom could not be properly closed and there was no lock. I’m not sure why this couldn’t be rectified as the door frames seemed relatively new and appeared ‘true’. Perhaps this is a “feature”. There is absolutely no sound insulation in the room. The bathroom was across the landing and we were provided with robes. However the bathroom could have done with a good clean too. The shower was hot and had good pressure. The bed was so soft that we found it uncomfortable, this is personal taste but beware if you prefer firmer beds. Breakfast was ok, but the breakfast table was covered in crumbs and bits from previous diners. Again lack of cleanliness and attention to detail. The hotel may be dog friendly, but certainly one of the resident dogs wasn’t friendly and nipped me as we were leaving; not a big deal for me but if you don’t like dogs… This review echoes that of one from 2021 and shows a lack of acceptance of customer feedback by the hosts. Finally, not that the hosts can do anything about this, but be warned that there are single track roads on all approaches and potholes aplenty- avoid the Ivy Cottsges turning!
