Welcome to Old Park Cottage, a historic listed building situated near the southern coastal path on the outskirts of St Lawrence village, on the sunny south side of the Isle of Wight. The Cottage benefits from the remarkable microclimate of the Undercliff and is just a couple of miles from the Victorian seaside town of Ventnor, with its harbour, sandy beaches, shops, pubs and restaurants.
The cottage stands within the grounds of the former Old Park Hotel, a fine Gothic Victorian manor house with 16 acres of woods, gardens, streams and waterfalls, with paths leading down to Binnel Bay.
The Cottage is one of the oldest buildings on the Old Park estate, dating from the early 17th Century. In the kitchen can be found a large beehive oven which was used to supply bread to the main household.
The Cottage has been renovated to provide comfortable accommodation while retaining the original sloping ceilings, beams and narrow staircase. On the ground floor there is a cosy sitting room, a bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen/dining room. From the kitchen, there is access to the Cottage’s own small enclosed garden with table and chairs. Upstairs there is a second bathroom, the main bedroom with double bed, and a second bedroom with two single beds. There is also a landing area with a further single bed.
The Cottage has a washing machine and tumble dryer, flat-screen TV and DVD player. With good heating, controlled via a central thermostat, it is warm and welcoming outside the summer months.
Nearby attractions include the Ventnor Botanic Garden, with its unrivalled collection of subtropical plants grown outdoors, and Steephill Cove, a traditional, unspoilt fishing cove with a safe, sandy beach, nestled between rocky cliffs and smugglers’ coves.
